DIETWALK-WALKED 6 MILES TODAY

Are You Cleaning Your Plate?"

Even after all these years, one thing my mother
used to say to me that still rings in my ears is
"Clean your plate."  You know... "all those
starving children."  I still hate to waste food.

It's difficult sometimes not to clean my plate even
when I'm full. This also goes for things like
microwave popcorn, packages of cookies, carton's of
ice cream. Clean it all up. Don't waste food. It is
like there is no tomorrow. "Got to" eat it all today.
Can't save any for tomorrow.

Over the years, one thing I have observed about thin
family members and friends is that they DO resist
the urge to clean their plates, eat the whole bag
of cookies or carton of ice cream.  They leave food
on their plates. They take only one or two
cookies etc.

It is difficult to unlearn things what we were
taught as children, but it can be done. For foods
that I can't control my eating... I don't keep them in
the house but eat occasionally when dining out.

Using smaller plates and not going back for seconds
is a big help.  Share desserts with someone else.
If you have family members who can eat anything,
package food in smaller containers and get it
out of sight as soon as it comes in the house.
"Out of sight...Out of mind."
